Letter From the Board

April 2016

Dear Friends of SAMA,

Welcome to another edition of the SAMA Newsletter. We would like to give you an update on SAMA’s activities so far in 2016.

As you can see from this newsletter, SAMA has been pretty active in the second half of 2015. We completed a number of smaller projects with the Health Centers in Batočina, Loznica, Opovo and Žabalj. In addition, we are in the process of remodeling the pediatric ward at Vranje Hospital. As you can see from the project updates below  Dr. Parezanović and her staff are extremely excited about finally having reasonable facilities for patients and better working conditions.

We have two fundraisers planned for the Spring of 2016. For the first time, SAMA is organizing a fundraiser in Chicago! We are reaching out to people outside of the Washington, D.C. metro area who are willing to help in our mission to provide resources and support to Serbian healthcare centers, service providers, and most importantly their patients. Ivan Aksentijevich plans to travel to Chicago and represent SAMA at this event.

Our fourth annual SAMA Walk is planned for May 22nd! We will be collecting funds for the Lučani Health Center that is in need of a 12 lead EKG machine and a mini autoclave.

SAMA also has several projects on backlog:

  • The Pančevo Hospital is in appalling conditions (thank you to Dušan Radaković for bringing it to our attention)
  • The Goraždevac Health Center in Kosovo is lacking serious resources overall
  • The Smederevo Health Center in need of an ultrasound probe

Last year, SAMA established an education fund focused on providing seminars and courses to medical staff in Serbia, as well as providing internship opportunities for medical students from Serbia in the US with the aim of familiarizing them with the standards of health care in the US. One of our major objectives for 2016 is to start doing the seminars with the healthcare centers and hospitals in Serbia.

Our conviction remains that there are a lot of good, honest doctors and medical staff in Serbia, wishing to truly serve their medical profession and help their patients. They deserve our help and support!

Without your support, none of SAMA’s work or projects would be possible. We ask that you continue to support us in this worthy cause with your valuable contributions. As always, SAMA is fully committed to being completely transparent with all of our projects and finances, as we remain dedicated to our goal of helping as many people in Serbia as possible.

Thank you!
